Nomad Rentals
A two-sided rental marketplace for homes and vehicles — one cross-platform app for discovery, real-time chat, booking and payment, built on top of Response365 rather than as a separate system.
01Overview
Nomad Rentals is a peer-to-peer rental marketplace where anyone can list a property or a vehicle and rent it out to others — homes & stays and cars, vans and bikes, in a single app. Discovery, conversation, booking, payment and trust all live in one flow, on iOS and Android. The twist is underneath: rather than building a standalone product, we delivered it as a consumer front for Response365 — our own multi-tenant business platform — reusing its booking, accounting and customer infrastructure.
02The problem it solves
Renting between people has always been messy — scattered messages, sketchy cash hand-offs, no protection when something goes wrong, and no easy way to know who you're dealing with. The goal was to launch a trustworthy, payments-grade consumer marketplace covering both short-term stays and peer-to-peer vehicles — without standing up a parallel system next to Response365, the platform already doing the operational, financial and customer work. The hard part was delivering a polished, money-moving mobile experience while reusing the reservation engine, ledger and customer records already in place.
Result a launch-ready, payments-enabled marketplace that turns a back-office platform into a live consumer product — with the trust, safety and money-movement to operate a real two-sided marketplace from day one.
03What we built
Cross-platform mobile app
One iOS & Android app for browsing, filtering and booking listings across two marketplaces — homes and vehicles. Guests browse freely; sign-up is frictionless and only required when they're ready to message or book. Real availability is blocked out so dates never double-book.
Real-time messaging
In-app, real-time chat between renters and hosts backed by WebSockets, with push notifications so no inquiry or message is ever missed — and a documented conversation trail attached to every booking.
Host toolkit
Create listings with photos, set flexible pricing (nightly, daily, weekly or monthly), manage availability, and confirm, decline or complete each booking. An earnings dashboard tracks net income, paid bookings and fees.
End-to-end payments
Stripe Connect throughout: secure card checkout, a refundable security deposit held until the rental completes and returned automatically, an automated platform fee on every completed booking, and direct payouts to host bank accounts after a quick verification.
Two-sided trust
Guests review hosts and hosts review guests, so reputation cuts both ways and good behaviour is rewarded on both sides.
04How we did it
Rather than spinning up a parallel system, we extended Response365. Bookings reused its reservation engine, payments reconciled straight into its accounting ledger, and identities flowed through its existing customer records. The genuinely new capabilities — the marketplace money layer, peer-to-peer messaging and reviews — were added as clean, isolated modules with zero data duplication. The whole thing is whitelabel: branding, colours and listing types are fully configurable per operator.
